About Beyond Yoga
As I developed, explored and deepened my Yoga practice working with different teachers, the more I realised that I had stepped into a whole new world of Yoga and self-enquiry of which there was so much more to than just stretching and working physically. Every teacher or practice is unique, you may be early on your Yoga journey, it may be the first class you have ever tried or a seasoned practitioner, everyone is welcome at my classes. I endeavour to make it accessible to everyone. My way of working is a subtle meditative approach with an emphasis on the felt sense.
A practice based on the Kosha (energy body sheathes) model of iRest Yoga Nidra, but bringing it into movement while still connecting to a place of being awareness. Exploring the body with the breath, to meet tension, allowing the breath to free up, deepen, and the body to open. The breath may have got stuck in the past through trauma, stresses and emotional blocks that can lead to pain or physical illness in the body. This subtle, deep, gentle, enquiry into what we are holding mentally emotionally and physically can be very powerful and allows us to connect to an inner peace, joy and freedom with a deeper understanding of who we truly are.
There may be some words or things that I offer that can take a bit of time to understand on conscious level, yet the unconcious and working from a place of being will know exactly what is right for you if we can listen to it. We’re working with a form of mindfulness meditative movement, surrendering to the natural phenomenon of gravity that affects us all, sensing and feeling into the natural rhythms of the body with the breath. In the practice were integrating the mental and emotional aspects of ourselves with the physical body, seeing how our life experiences and belief system has such an impact on us.
I invite you to ask questions after class or in private as it may be quite a different way of working and it may take a few times of practicing to get used to it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea and your body may want something different and that is ok. It works very well alongside a more physically dynamic practice, this way of practice and way of working can give much more awareness as to how your body moves and works. It can highlight where we hold our tension and the effect it has on our movement and posture.
After studying with numerous teachers around the world and from my own experience through daily practice, I appreciate the importance of getting the basics right with a solid foundation. A grounding and feeling into the body and connecting to the breath, allowing the breath to restore it's natural rhythm through the system. With this connection and understanding it acts as a tool to really enquire into who we are and to feel and sense where we have energetic blocks that affect us physically.
